Meditation
This is the measure of the holiness of the children of God: "to be holy as God, to be holy with the Holiness of God" [Jn 3:3]; and we do this by living close to Him on the depths of the bottomless abyss within. Then the soul seems in some way to resemble God who, even though He delights in all things, yet does not delight in them as much as He does in Himself, for He possesses within Himself a supereminent good before which all others disappear. Thus all the joys which the soul receives are so many reminders inviting her to enjoy by preference the good she already possesses and to which nothing else can compare. "Our Father Who Art in Heaven...." It is in this little Heaven that He made in the centre of our soul that we must seek Him and above all where we must remain. St Elizabeth of the Trinity Heaven in Faith Psalm The Lord is my Shepherd; there is nothing I shall want. Fresh and green are the pastures where He gives me repose. Near restful waters He leads me, to revive my drooping spirit. He guides me along the right path; He is true to His Name. If I should walk in the valley of darkness no evil would I fear. You are there with Your Crook and Your Staff; with these You give me comfort. You have prepared a banquet for me in the sight of my foes. My head You have anointed with oil; my cup is overflowing. Surely goodness and kindness shall follow me all the days of my life. In the Lord's Own House shall I dwell for ever and ever. Psalm 22 Prayer O Lord my God, teach my heart where and how to seek You, where and how to find You. Lord, You are my God and my Lord, and never have I seen You. You have created me and re-created me and You have given me all the good things I possess, and still I do not know You. I have not yet accomplished that for which I was made. Poor, I have come to One Who is Rich. Unfortunate, I have come to One Who is Merciful. Do not let me return scorned and emptyhanded, Let me discern Your Light whether from afar or from the depths. Teach me to seek You and reveal Yourself to me as I seek, for I can neither see You if You do not teach me how nor find You unless You reveal Yourself. Let me seek You in desiring You; let me desire You in seeking You; let me find You in loving You; let me love You in finding You. I acknowledge Lord, and give thanks that You have created Your Image in me, so that I may recollect You, think of You, love You. For I do not seek to understand so that I may believe; but I believe so that I may understand. For I believe this also, that "unless I believe, I shall not understand" [Is 7:9]. Lord, grant that I may understand, as You see fit. St. Anselm From the Proslogion
