March: The Month of St. Joseph

The Month of March is dedicated to St. Joseph. The 19th March is the Solemnity of St. Joseph. He is, next after Our Lady, the most powerful saint Heaven has, and like Our Lady he is a universal patron, meaning that anyone can turn to him for any need they have. However, St. Joseph does have some particular patronages, including being the Patron of the Universal Church, of families and of fathers. 

Below are a collection of prayers that you may wish to use in his honour this month, or at any other time. Every Wednesday is also dedicated to St. Joseph, so saying these prayers on Wednesdays are a great way to honour our dear Father St. Joseph.

Novena to St. Joseph:

Saint Joseph, I, thy unworthy child, greet thee. Thou art the faithful protector and intercessor of all who love and venerate thee. Thou knowest that I have special confidence in thee and that,  after Jesus and Mary, I place all my hope of salvation in thee, for thou art especially powerful with God and will never abandon thy faithful servants. Therefore I humbly invoke thee and commend myself, with all who are dear to me and all that belong to me, to thy intercession. I beg of thee, my Lord and Father, by thy love for Jesus and Mary, not to abandon me during life and to assist me at the hour of my death.

Glorious Saint Joseph, Spouse of the Immaculate Virgin, obtain for me a pure, humble, charitable mind, and perfect resignation to the Divine Will. Be my guide, my Father, and my model through life
that I may merit to die as thou didst in the arms of Jesus and Mary.

Loving Saint Joseph, faithful follower of Jesus Christ, I raise my heart to thee to implore thy powerful intercession in obtaining from the Divine Heart of Jesus all the graces necessary for my spiritual and temporal welfare, particularly the grace of a happy death, and the special grace I now implore:

Remember, most pure Spouse of Mary, ever Virgin, my loving protector, Saint Joseph, that no one ever had recourse to thy protection or asked for thine aid without obtaining relief. Confiding, therefore, in thy goodness, I come before thee and humbly implore thee. Despise not my petitions,  Foster-father of the Redeemer, but graciously receive them. Amen.

Consecration to the St. Joseph

O Glorious Patriarch and Patron of the Church! O Virgin Spouse of the Virgin Mother of God! O Guardian and Virginal Father of the Word Incarnate! In the presence of Jesus and Mary, I choose thee this day to be my Father, my guardian, and my protector.

O great St. Joseph, whom God has made the Head of the Holy Family, accept me, I beseech thee, though utterly unworthy, to be a member of thy Holy House. Present me to thy Immaculate Spouse; ask her also to adopt me as Her child. With Her, pray that I may constantly think of Jesus, and serve Him faithfully to the end of my life. O Terror of Demons, increase in me virtue, protect me from the Evil One, and help me never to offend my God.

O my Spiritual Father, I hereby consecrate myself to thee. In faithful imitation of Jesus and Mary, I place myself and all my concerns under thy care and protection. To thee, after Jesus and Mary, I consecrate my body and soul, with all their faculties, my spiritual growth, my home, and all my affairs and undertakings.

Forsake me not, but adopt me as a servant and child of the Holy Family. Watch over me at all times, but especially at the hour of my death. Console and strengthen me with the presence of Jesus and Mary so that, with thee, I may praise and adore the Holy Trinity for all eternity. Amen.

O blessed be that hour in which thou was conceived, O all-holy Patriarch, St. Joseph, and blessed be the Almighty Who made thee, and fashioned thee; Who hath chosen thee to be on earth His Father and Guardian, and the Spouse of His Most Holy Mother; Who hath raised thee on High and seated thee upon a throne of grace; Who hath appointed thee to be father to all His children, and Patron of the Universal Church! 

Graciously hear the prayer of this lowly sinner, who approacheth thee in my need, and who calleth out to thee from the lowliness of my misery. O Terror of Demons, drive from me every diabolical influence, every malifice, and protect me with thy mantle from every attack of the Devil. And in thy great compassion, my Father and Lord, do thou aid me to excel in every good work, especially to acquire those virtues proper to my state in life, and to forsake all my sins, out of love for Our Lord, over Whom on earth thou had authority to command. 

O Prince of Patriarchs, in perfect imitation of my Saviour, I too submit myself to thee. I choose thee as my Patron and Protector, placing my entire person and all my possessions under thy paternal care and solicitude. I know how powerful thou art, and so in confidence I petition thee to pray for me to thy Son, especially for this present need [name your intention(s)]. 

Obtain for me a favourable answer to my needs, O St. Joseph, and pray that I may be provided with a happy and holy death, with the Sacraments to comfort and accompany me, and finally, a place with thee to contemplate the Holy Face of thy Son for all eternity! Amen

O God, in Thy ineffable Providence Thou wert pleased to choose Blessed Joseph to be the Spouse of Thy Most Holy Mother, grant, we beseech Thee, that we may be worthy to have him for our intercessor in Heaven whom on earth we venerate as our Protector; Who liveth and reigneth forever and ever. Amen.
