Rorate Caeli (RC) reports that Fr. Thomas Rosica, a Canadian priest who is very close to Pope Francis, wrote an article for Zenit in which he says the following: Pope Francis breaks Catholic traditions whenever he wants, because he is “free from disordered attachments.” Our Church has indeed entered a new phase: with the advent of this first Jesuit pope, it is openly ruled by an individual rather than by the authority of Scripture alone or even its own dictates of tradition plus Scripture. Everything in that statement is heretical. It should not be surprising to learn that Zenit has, according to RC, scrubbed this statement out, but, Deo gratias, RC copied the entire original article, which you can read on their site. I think RC explains quite well the heresy in this statement, and they quote from Pastor Aeternus of Vatican I, which states: The Holy Spirit was promised to the Successors of Peter not so that they might, by his revelation, make known some new doctrine, but that, by His assistance, they might religiously guard and faithfully expound the revelation or Deposit of Faith transmitted by the Apostles. Indeed, their Apostolic teaching was embraced by all the venerable Fathers and reverenced and followed by all the holy orthodox Doctors, for they knew very well that this See of St. Peter always remains unblemished by any error, in accordance with the Divine Promise of Our Lord and Saviour to the Prince of His Disciples [St. Peter]: "I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail; and when you have turned again, strengthen your brethren." [Emphasis mine] Clearly, Fr. Rosica needs to read his Vatican I.....saying that, he might just get a shock though!
